We list transcripts, which have in the past been reported as connected to abiotic stress responses. These genes are or could be involved in plant responses to environmental stresses (cold, drought, salt, heat) or are induced following ABA treatment. Corresponding to these genes, ESTs from cDNA libraries of A. thaliana (libraries prepared U. Arizona and MSU) have been selected according to their homology. The resulting cDNAs and ESTs are being printed on a "small DNA microarray" containing up to 500 elements (and additional controls). We are adding other ESTs, which have been found as regulated by salt stress or cold stress using a large (~9000 ESTs) Arabidopsis thaliana microarray (Deyholos M., Nouzova M., Galbraith D. W., unpublished). This small 'designer array' is being used for a detailed analysis of gene expression in wild type as well as for the analysis of mutants under control and stress conditions.
The list was assembled by Marcela Nouzova and Zhi-Zong Gong in collaboration with David W. Galbraith, P. Mike Hasegawa, Hans J. Bohnert, John C. Cushman and Jian-Kang Zhu.
